Sevilla kept on track to
become only the second side in the history of the tournament to win the trophy
two seasons in a row after drawing 2-2 at Tottenham Hotspur. Within eight
minutes the Andalusians were already two up, Malbranque scoring in his own net
trying to clear after Poulsen headed on Martí's corner, and
Kanouté picking up a return pass from Kerzhakov to score his second in a
row against his old club.
With a 2-1 advantage from
the first leg, that meant that Spurs had to score four to qualify. Adriano and
Kerzhakov both missed chances to increase the lead, but before half time the
locals fought back, Berbatov in particular firing a shot against the foot of
the post defended by Cobeño, who was replacing the injured Palop.
Javi Navarro was lucky to be
let off a clear penalty on Zokora after the restart, but midway through the
first half the home side made it all square on the night with two goals in a
minute, Defoe deflecting a Keane shot past the keeper only a couple of minutes
after coming on as substitute, and Lennon poking the ball past the keeper after
Keane charged down an attempted clearance from Berbatov's cross.
Juande Ramos had already
replaced Alves with Renato, and he immediately withdrew Kerzhakov to bring on
another defender Aitor Ocio. Antonio Puerta put Robinson to the test a couple
of times, but Cobeño had to be on his toes to keep out Berbatov as the
English side went for broke. A few minutes from the end though they were left
with ten men after Tainio was sent off for a foul on Puerta, and Sevilla were
through. |
