which deflected off defender over keeper.
Espanyol finished off the
job they started a week ago, beating Livorno 2-0 to add to the 1-2 victory from
the first leg. Ernesto Valverde's side have now won seven games in a row in the
competition, and with a next round tie against Maccabi Haifa (which will take
place in Tel Aviv for security reasons) they must be ranked one of the
tournament favourites.
The Catalans were on top
from the beginning, Corominas, Pandiani and Jarque all going close before
Jarque headed on Luis García's corner allowing Lacruz to finish off on
the far post. And just two minutes in to the second half a shot from Corominas
looped off the foot of a defender over the head of Amelia for the second. The
Italians were left with ten men when César Rodrigues picked up a second
booking, and Jonatas had a strike ruled out in the dying minutes for a
borderline offside. |
