Celta are in trouble after
losing 2-1 at Newcastle, and they find themselves at the bottom of their
difficult group with two games to go. Canobbio gave the Galicians an early
lead, shrugging off Emre's tackle to curl a great shot wide of Given after
Baiano and Aspas had combined to set him up. Before that Luque had put a good
chance wide, but Celta held on to their lead until shortly before the break,
when Milner got free on the right wing and crossed in for Sibierski to head
down past Esteban.
Newcastle could have gone
ahead before half time when Bramble headed over with only the keeper to beat.
But Angel could have scored at the other end soon after the restart had he not
shot wide. The game appeared to be heading for a draw though when Taylor ran in
from the edge of the box to fling himself forward and head Luque's corner in to
the net. Glen Roeder's side had their third win out of three, and Celta now
need to beat Fenerbahçe next week to have any chance of qualifying.
