Osasuna opened the group
stage with yet another 0-0 result against Heerenveen, their fifth draw in
Europe competitions this season. Neither side had been able to score in their
last three matches, but it was the Spaniards who dominated the first half, with
Puñal bring a save out of Vandenbussche early on and Soldado, Nekounam
and Izquierdo all trying their luck before the break.
Juanlu was blocked by
Hansson after the restart and Soldado (yet to score in an Osasuna shirt) headed
the easiest of chances wide. But the Dutch side could have gone ahead had Elia
not saved from substitute Yildirim with ten minutes to go, their first and only
real shot in target in all the match.
A few minutes later the
visitors were left with ten men when Nilsson was shown a second yellow card for
time wasting as he left the field to be substituted, and Ziganda finally threw
on Romeo, who almost won it with last minute header which the keeper managed to
keep out. |
