Celta went through to the league stage with a 3-0 win over Standard Liège, adding to their one goal victory from the first leg. It was not as comfortable a result as it looked though, and Esteban had to be at his best to keep out Rapaic early on. The Galicians took the lead though in their first attack after Nuñez laid the ball in from the right, Jorge playing the ball back for Baiano to squeeze a shot past Renard.

Fernando Vázquez's side could have had a penalty when Onyewu handled in the area, but Tamas was lucky to get off with a yellow card for a hard tackle at the other end. The Belgians were looking good as the second half began though, and Esteban was called upon to make a string of saves, in particular from Sergio Conceiçao and a few minutes later from a Geraerts penalty after Lequi fouled Maroune in the area.

Vázquez eventually turned to Canobbio to sort things out, and within a minute of coming on the Uruguayan midfielder put his side two up, collecting a cross from the right and surprising the keeper with a quick shot on the turn. And a few minutes later Canobbio set up Baiano for him to round the keeper and make it three. A flattering result in the end.
