Defending champions Sevilla
beat Atromitos 1-2 in Athens, curiously the victory coming just two days after
Valencia finally broke the jinx against Spanish sides in Greece. Juande Ramos's
side pushed forward right from the start, and got their reward when Kepa headed
home Duda's cross with fifteen minutes on the clock. And with the first half
coming to an end, Duda picked up a long cross from Jesús Navas and
turned the ball back under the body of Michailidis for the second.
With the game seemingly won,
the coach decided to rest Navas and then Kanouté. But a lapse of
concentration between Hinkel and Poulsen allowed Korakakis to steall the ball
away and get a goal back. That inspired the Greeks with confidence, and Palop
had to be best to keep out Koutsospiros and Sanokho. But when Doe missed an
easy chance it was all over, and Sevilla had a foot and a half in the next
round. |
