A 2-2 draw for Espanyol at
Artmedia thanks to a second half equaliser from Pandiani. Valverde made several
changes from his usual league line up, but they had the better of the opening
minutes, with Tamudo and Pandiani both having shots saved by Kollar.
With half an hour on the
clock things seemed to be going their way when the keeper failed to hold on to
Zabaleta's cross and Riera turned the rebound back in to the net. But before
half time the Slovakians turned the scoreline around, the unmarked Halenar
steering a header past Gorka from Kozak's cross, and Tchur volleying another
cross from the right wing to put his side ahead.
To make matters worse
Espanyol lost left back David García to a serious uinjury before half
time, but just seven minutes after the restart they were back level, Pandiani
picking up Rufete's pass to fire in a shot which deflected off Debnar past
Kollar.
Valverde's side could have
won it after that, Ito drilling a shot against the foot of the post and
Pandiani failing to turn a Luis García free kick in to the net. But it
was a good result to take in to the second leg, and Espanyol should be in the
group stage draw once again. |
