Spain are out of the under
20 World Cup after losing a penalty shoot out to the Czech Republic.
Ginés Meléndez's side had the better of the match but were unable
to break down a well ordered defence, Adrián López missing the
best chance to put his side ahead shortly before the end of the second half
when he hit the post with the goal at his mercy. But Kalouda opened the scoring
for the East Europeans after Adán could only push away Janda's a corner
in the first half of extra time.
Piqué headed against
the bar a few minutes later and Bueno and Granero also went close as Spain
pushed for the equaliser, and Mata finally levelled the scores after Bueno's
effort came back off the post. But the Czechs held their nerve in the shoot
out, and Marc Valiente and Piqué both missed their spot kicks to hand
victory to their opponents. |
