SPAIN 2 SCOTLAND 1
Spain won the under-19's
European Championship after surviving a late scare. The young Spaniards had
beaten the Scots 4-0 in the group stages but a repeat of that scoreline never
looked likely.
Spanish goalkeeper
Adán had to parry away a goalbound effort from Hearts striker Elliot
early on. Spanish wingers Capel and Calvo have been outstanding in this
tournament but they took a while to get into the game as Scotland packed the
midfield. The Scots had the ball in the net in the 40th minute but a flag was
already up before Elliot slotted home. Spain's best effort of the first half
was a Mario volley that dipped just over.
Spain took the lead early in
the second half thanks to Bueno's spectacular chip. The same player made it two
after good work from Man Utd starlet Pique. Dorrans pulled one back for
Scotland with three minutes to go to set up a grandstand finish with the same
player having a shot blocked at the death. But Spain held on to win their third
under-19 title in five years. |
