Spain cruised in to the
under 19 European Championship final with a crushing 5-0 victory over Austria.
Although the first chance fell to the Central Europeans, Walch shooting wide
early on, Ginés Meléndez's side were soon in control, and Kuru
did well to keep out a shot from Mata and a Javi García free kick. Ten
minutes before half time though Piqué and Mata combined to set up
Jeffrén for the opening goal, and before the break Javi García
had added a second with a free kick which deflected in off the keeper after
hitting the bar.
Piqué put a good
chance over the bar early in the second half, but the Austrians caused a few
problems for Adán themselves before Mata put the game out of their reach
after picking up a return pass from his Real Madrid team mate Bueno. Spain
added two more after that, Javi García beating the offside trap to get
his second of the night and Bueno wrapping things up two minutes from the end
after good work again by Mata. Their opponents in the final will be Scotland,
who surprisingly won 1-0 against the Czech Republic in the other semi-final,
and having already beaten them 4-0 at the group stage the youngsters must now
be favourites for the title. |
