Spain ensured their place in
the semi-finals with a comfortable win over Scotland in their second group
game. Ginés Meléndez only made one change from the first match,
drafting in Sevilla's Diego Capel, and it was his cross which set up the first
goal for Bueno after a shot from his Real Madrid team mate Mata was parried by
keeper McNeil.
Manchester United defender
Gerard Piqué headed two more either side of half time before leaving the
pitch with an injury, the first from Canella's cross and the second from Mata's
corner, putting the game beyond Scotland's reach.
McNeil stopped Capel from
making it four and Fletcher headed wide at the other end, but with five minutes
to go Atlético Madrid's Mario Suárez latched on to Mata's through
ball and wrap things up. The win assures Spain of top spot in group B as well
as a place in next summer's youth World Cup. |
