Second division - day 42

The last match of the season ended with a 3-0 victory for second placed Almería over bottom club Vecindario. Crusat, Francisco and Kirian (own goal) were the scorers. (17.06.07)

The final issues in the second division were all decided by last weekend, but the final round of games still had to be played out. Champions Valladolid still had one challenge though, set a new record number of points for the second division, and they ended the season on 88 after a last minute 1-2 win at Numancia.

Real Murcia could have edged up to second place pending Almería's game on Sunday, but they lost 1-4 to a Tenerife side who are putting in a final flourish under caretaker coach Toño. Murcia say goodbye to the second division on their way up, but their city neighbours Ciudad Murcia said goodbye for good after their franchise was sold to Granada 74. They still finished fourth though despite a 1-0 defeat at Salamanca.

Four of five other clubs could possibly change hands this summer as well, although none are expected to move from their existing locations. They include Cádiz, who drew 3-3 with already relegated Real Madrid Castilla thanks to a late equaliser from Lobos, Xerez, who lost 2-1 in the last minute at Sporting Gijón (Gerardo penalty), Castellón and Málaga, who met on the last day with the Andalusians running out 0-1 winners, and Alavés, who were beaten 1-2 by a Ponferradina side who are also going down.

Elsewhere Albacete tied up a respectable sixth spot with a 1-0 win over another of the relegated sides, Lorca, Elche made sure of a finish in the top half of the table with a 0-2 win at Hércules, and Poli Ejido ended just a place behind David Vidal's side after they too won 0-2 at Las Palmas.
