Youth international fixtures
As well as the fixtures of
the full international side, Spain's youth teams have been in action recently
in various competitions.
An under 20 side will be
taking place in next July's Youth World Cup in Canada after winning the under
19 European Championship last summer, and they won a warm up game in
Alcázar de San Juan last week against the Czech Republic 3-1,
with goals from Real Madrid's Mata, Albacete's César and Sevilla's Diego
Capel in the second half.
Spain's current under 19
side played a double header against Portugal in the middle of March in
preparation for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers in Norway in a
few weeks' time. Ginés Meléndez's side lost their first match
1-0, Rui Pedro scoring for the hosts in the second half. But they won the
second game by the same scoreline thanks to a late goal by Liverpool defender
Miki Roqué.
The under 17 squad hosted
their qualifying group matches this week, and they comfortably topped their
table with three wins out of three. Barcelona's Bojan Krkic got the goal as
they beat Switzerland 1-0 in the opening game, and Arsenal's Fran
Merida, Atlético Madrid's Pichu and Athletic Bilbao's Isma scored as
they came from behind to win 3-1 against Sweden. After that they only
needed to draw against Poland, but a header from Pichu gave them a 1-0
result, ensuring their place in the finals which will take place in Belgium in
May. (31.03.07) |
