UEFA Cup, fourth round, second leg
There will be three Spanish
sides in Friday's quarter final draw after Sevilla and Espanyol both qualified.
Sevilla just managed it by the skin of their teeth though, winning 2-3
against Shakhtar Donetsk in one of the most exciting games of the year.
An incredible scorpion kick by Matuzalem put the Ukrainians ahead, and although
Maresca levelled the scores, Elano appeared to have won it for the locals. But
with the game in the fourth minute of injury time goalkeeper Palop equalised
again with a header from an Alves corner, and Chevantón got the winner
in extra time. Espanyol left it until the second half before they got
going, but strikes from De la Peña, Tamudo, Luis García and
Pandiani gave them a 4-0 win over Maccabi Haifa. (15.03.07)
One in, one out, in the
first day of the second leg matches. Osasuna beat Rangers 1-0 to
make it through to the quarter finals of a European competition for the first
time in their history. Webó got the only goal of the game twenty minutes
from the end after David López set him up to give his side a 2-1
aggregate win over the two legs. But Celta are out of the competition
after losing 2-0 at Werder Bremen, second half goals from Almeida and
Fritz adding to the one goal victory for the Germans from the first leg.
