Second division - day 28
Valladolid continue
to re-write the record books, their 0-2 victory at Lorca equalling
Espanyol's 22 match unbeaten run from thirteen years ago. Manchev and
Iñaki Bea got the goals early in the second half to send their opponents
further down into the drop zone. Mendilibar's side move even further clear of
the pack as they were the only one of the top nine clubs to win this weekend
.Earlier in the day second placed Real Murcia were beaten 0-1 by
Albacete, despite the fact that the Manchegans had to field their third
choice keeper. Calle headed in Ferrón's cross midway through the second
half to give the visitors their fourth win in five games.
Almería hold
on to third spot despite throwing away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 against ten
man Alavés. An Ortíz strike and a Michel penalty put the
locals ahead with an hour gone, but despite having their keeper sent off,
Piterman's side saved a point with an Aloisi penalty and a goal by Gaspar.
Fourth placed Numancia were beaten 1-0 by Tenerife, Cristo
getting the goal late on to give the Canary Islanders a bit of breathing space.
And Cádiz were held to a 1-1 draw by Hércules, an
early Miguel García penalty being cancelled out by Montenegro after the
local goalscorer was sent off.
As always the relegation
spots will be closely fought, and Málaga are in the fray after a
0-0 draw against Ciudad Murcia left them just one place and two points
above the drop zone. The Andalusians have not won now in five games.
Castellón are still two points below them however after losing
1-2 against Salamanca, Braulio winning it for Javi López's side
after Natalio had levelled an earlier strike by Tortolero. And
Ponferradina could not improve their position after drawing 1-1 with
Xerez, although a late goal from Baha did save them a point after David
Prieto had given the Andalusians the lead in the fourth minute. (11.03.07)
Three matches in the second
division on Saturday, mainly involving sides in the lower reaches of the table.
Las Palmas moved away from the danger zone after beating Castilla
0-3, Marcos Márquez getting two of their goals and Nacho Garro the
third. Sporting Gijón won 0-2 at bottom club Vecindario
with strikes from Karanka and Pedro. And Elche beat Poli Ejido
2-0 with early goals from Casas and Peragón to move to within two points
of their opponents in the table. (10.03.07) |
