UEFA Cup, fourth round, first leg
Not the best of starts for
the four Spanish clubs in the fourth round of the UEFA Cup, with three draws
and a defeat between them. The better results were for the teams playing away
from home, Espanyol drawing 0-0 at Maccabi Haifa and
Osasuna coming away from Rangers with a 1-1 result. Raúl
García had headed the Pamplona based side into the lead early on, by a
last minute strike from Hemdani made it all square.
Defending champions
Sevilla could only draw 2-2 with Shakhtar Donetsk, and that
thanks to a late penalty from Maresca. It was the third spot kick of the night,
Martí giving the Andalusians the lead, and after Hübschman had
equalised with the only goal from open play, Matuzalem put the Ukrainians
ahead. Celta came out worst of all the Spanish sides though, an Almeira
header four minutes from the end handing them a 0-1 defeat against Werder
Bremen. (08.03.07) |
