UEFA Cup, league stage, day 3
Defending champions
Sevilla beat Sporting Braga 2-0 to record their first victory in
the group stage. Luis Fabiano got the first shortly before half time after
Alves and Adriano combined to set him up, and Chevantón came on to make
it two later on. Espanyol top their group after thrashing Zulte
Waregem 6-2, their highest tally in 50 years or so. Luis García got
a hat-trick, including a penalty, and Pandiani got two more after Coro had
opened the scoring. Celta are in trouble though after losing 2-1 at
Newcastle. Canobbio had given the Galicians an early lead, but headed
goals by Sibierski and Taylor turned the scoreline around. Osasuna had a
rest day, but they need at least four points from their last two games to
qualify after today's other results. (23.11.06) |
