Valencia have a good chance
of going through to the quarter finals after a 2-2 draw at Inter Milan. The
Italians had won no less than 16 games in a row, and they started strongly,
with Ibrahimovic heading against the post early on. And with half an hour on
the clock they took the lead following a Figo free kick, Cambiasso heading in
from what was possibly an offside position after Cañizares pushed out
Ibrahimovic's shot. Later in the first half Crespo could have added to the
scoreline when he headed wide, and David Villa shot off target at the other
end.
Villa levelled the scores
though with a well struck free kick after the restart which left Julio
César no chance. Maicon restored the lead for the hosts a few minutes
later, picking up a return pass from substitute Julio Cruz to shoot low past
Cañizares. But Figo had to clear off the line from Ayala with ten
minutes to go, and a few minutes later Córdoba could only clear Villa's
corner as far as Silva, who fired a first time volley into the back of the net.
A second vital away goal, and a low scoring draw in two weeks' time will see
Valencia through. |
