An injury time goal from Drogba gave Chelsea a 2-2 draw at Barcelona, leaving Frank Rijkaard's side with a lot to do if they are to reach the knock-out stage. Deco had given the Catalans the lead in only the third minute, winning the ball off Boulahrouz in midfield and running on past two defenders to beat Hilario. And both keepers were called upon as both sides produced attractive put physical football, the Chelsea keeper pushing a shot from Xavi round the post, and Víctor Valdés tipping a header from Essien over the bar and stopping another effort from Robben. Ronaldinho and Ballack also fired shots over the bar at each end, and Italian referee Stefano Farina brought criticism from both camps, trning down penalty appeals by Drogba and Makelele, and appearing to show a second card to Ashley Cole without sending him off (he later confirmed unconvincingly that the first card was for Lampard).

The pace continued after the restart, with the English side in particular pushing for the equaliser. Valdés did well to get down to a good header from Robben, and the Dutch winger somehow fired another shot over the bar after Lampard had set him up in front of goal. And seven minutes in to the second half Lampard equalised with one of the most incredible goals ever seen in the Nou Camp. The English midfielder appeared to have lost the advantage after Makelele had sent him away, being forced to the left by-line by Zambrotta. But he turned quickly on the ball and curled a lob over the head of the amazed Valdés off the far post and in to the net.

Soon afterwards however Barça were in front again after Ronaldinho lost Boulahrouz and poked a centre across goal for Gudjohnsen to score against his old club. Farina turned down another penalty appeal by Lampard, and Gudjohnsen could have extended the lead when he picked up another pass from Ronaldinho only to shoot way up into the stands under pressure from Terry. A few minutes later the striker was carried off writhing in agony, although tests later revealed that the injury was not as serious as at first thought.

The chances continued as the game went in to injury time, but with an important win seemingly on the cards for the home team, Terry headed Makelele's cross back to Drogba, who ghosted past Márquez and rolled a shot wide of Valdés to level the scores once again. Mourinho went wild, his side having virtually ensured their place in the last sixteen. Barça though find themselves two points behind Werder Bremen in third place, and they now have to win both their remaining matches, away at Levski Sofia and home to Bremen, to be sure of going through.
