Sevilla are through to the semi-finals of the UEFA cup after a 5-2 aggregate win over Zenit The Andalusians started the game with a three goal advantage from the first leg, but the freezing conditions, bad pitch and fervent crowd were against them right from the start. With snow falling Juande Ramos's side were pushed back, Kerzakhov shooting wide and Palop saving a header from Vlasov. Some stout defending though meant tht the two sides went in at the break with the scoreboard unmoved.

Early in the second half the home side narrowed the gap with a strike from Hyun Young Min. Ramos brought on fresh legs though, and his second substitute Kepa did the trick, levelling the scores on the night almost immediately after coming on, picking up a pass from Alves to shoot low past Malafeev.

The Russians now had to score three times to take the game in to extra time, and although things got a little more complicated when Kepa's brief adventure ended with him being shown a red card, numbers were evened up soon afterwards when Krizanec was also sent off for a tackle on Maresca which took the Italian mdfielder out of the game.

Sevilla had a chance to wrap things up when they were awarded a penalty by the Italian referee Stefano Farina after Skrtel brought down Daniel Alves, but in the absence of Maresca the Brazilian full back took the kick himself and saw it saved by the keeper. There was little time left though, and a few minutes later it was all over. The Spaniards were through for the first time in their history to a European semi-final, with only Schalke '04 standing in the way of a trip to Eindhoven.
