Inswinging corner which Notario couldn't stop entering the net.
Sevilla have an uphill
battle if they are to win through to the quarter finals after losing 1-0 to
Lille in this first leg match. After Kanouté missed an early chance the
Andalusians were pinned back, Moussilou brushing the post with a lob on the
quarter hour mark. And a few minutes later the French side took the lead when
an inswinging corner from Dernis, assisted by the strong wind, caught Notario
off his guard.
Local keeper Sylva did well
to keep out Luis Fabiano soon afterwards, and Kanouté failed to convert
an assist from Fabiano later in the first half. The ex Spurs striker had to
help out his defence before the half time whistle though, clearing a header
from Makoun off the line with the keeper beaten.
Jesús Navas was
causing some problems for the French defence, and he set up Martí for
him to fire in a shot after the break which was deflected by Plestan. Juande
Ramos eventually turned to Saviola, but he too was unable to beat a confident
Sylva, dallying too long on one occasion when free on goal and allowing himself
to be closed down. No away goals though for the Spanish side, and that could be
decisive when battle is recommenced in Sevilla next Wednesday.
