Osasuna are out of the UEFA
cup after failing to overcome a first leg deficit against Stade Rennes, their
0-0 draw falling well short of what they needed to turn the scoreline around.
Javier Aguirre put out an attacking side with Milosevic and Webó up
front, but they were unable to make any headway against a side who had come to
Pamplona to defend their lead. And in fact the only two chances in the first
half fell to the visitors, Utaka and Didot failing to take advantage of crosses
by Monterrubio.
Aguirre brought on Valdo for
Sosa at the break, and that brightened up their ideas. Raúl
García went close and Webó brought a good save out of Isaksson,
and the Camerooni striker almost gave his side the lead when he headed a corner
against the post. But the French side were also causing problems on the
breakaway, and Monterrubio hit the post himself a few minutes later. In the end
though Osasuna ran out of time, and Rennes held on to qualify for the second
round league stage. |
