Sevilla were unable to score
at home to Mainz 05, although their goalless draw at least gives them a fair
chance in the second leg in a fortnight's time. Juande Ramos put out a strong
side with Kanouté and Luis Fabiano leading the attack, but they were
unable to get past an excellent Wache who kept out Jesús Navas in the
third minute.
Kanouté put the best
chance of the first half over the bar on the half hour mark, and Maresca and
Adriano both went close before the half time whistle. The only reply from the
German side was an effort from Turk just wide of the post midway through the
first half, but otherwise they sat back to defend and take a draw back home for
the second leg.
Ramos brought on Kepa and
Jesuli in the second half, and Kepa headed over the bar from close up just a
minute after coming on. But gradually the Spaniards ran out of steam, and they
now have it all to do in two weeks' time. |
