Spain cruised through to a
final meeting with Turkey after beating Libya 5-0 in their semi-final. Juan
Santiesteban changed his side around for this game, partly as he had players
suspended after the bad tempered match with Italy and partly to rest others,
with Osasuna's twin brothers Javier and Miguel Flaño both getting a
start and Jesús Gámez moving forward to take up a position on the
wing. And the Málaga full back showed his versatility, controlling a
through ball from Javi Fuego to open the scoring in the fifth minute of the
game.
Larrea could have added a
second later in the first half had Ashrif not saved well, and Manu Del Moral
also went close following a short free kick. But there were no further goals
until around the hour mark, when Gámez volleyed home a long cross from
substitute Motañés.
Manu Del Moral added a third
almost immediately though with a shot from outside of the area, and Valera made
it four soon afterwards after the keeper dropped a corner at his feet. And with
the game coming to an end Del Moral got his second of the night after Valera
set him up to take his side through to a second meeting with Turkey, who they
drew with at the group stage of the competition. A silver medal at least is
assured. |
