World Cup, group stage, day 3
Saudi Arabia 0 - Spain 1
Spain ended the group
stage with three wins out of three, although their 1-0 victory over Saudi
Arabia was not as big as they had hoped. With top spot virtually assured,
Luis Aragonés rested all of his first choice players. But a great
performance by the Saudi keeper Zaid meant that "la selección" had to
make do with Juanito's headed goal from a Reyes free kick late in the first
half. Even the appearance of Torres, Villa and Xavi in the second half couldn't
change things, and the Arab side could have even saved a point when they put
Cañizares to the test late on. Spain's opponents for the last 16 will be
known tonight once the Group G matches finish, with France, Switzerland and
their nemesis from the last edition South Korea all possible rivals. (23.06.06)
