Champions League, quarter finals, second leg
Barcelona 2 - Benfica 0
Barcelona will be
joining Villarreal in the semi-finals after they beat Benfica 2-0. The
result was in doubt though until two minutes from the end, when Eto'o wrapped
things up on a quick breakaway. Visiting keeper Moretto had saved a penalty
from Ronaldinho in only the fourth minute, but the Brazilian midfielder made up
for his mistake when he beat the keeper a quarter of an hour later after Eto'o
set him up. Frank Rijkaard's side meet AC Milan in the next round, with the
possibility of an all Spanish final if Villarreal can win against Arsenal in
their semi-final. (05.04.06)
Villarreal 1 - Inter Milan 0
Villarreal are
through to the semi-finals of the Champions League! The Spanish side who only a
few seasons ago were playing in the lower divisions beat mighty Inter
Milan 1-0 to go through to the last four of the competition on the away
goal rule. The only goal of the game came with just under an hour on the clock
when Arruabarrena headed Riquelme's long free kick over Toldo, although there
could have been more had the keeper not kept out Forlán and Riquelme
later on. Pellegrini's side will play the winner of the tie between Arsenal and
Juventus. (04.04.06) |
