Friendly matches
As usual several regional
sides took on international opposition during the two week winter break.
Navarra were the first to kick off, beating China 1-0 on Boxing Day with a goal
from Muñoz. China then went on to lose 4-1 to Andalusia two days later,
and finished off with another 2-0 defeat at the hands of Racing Santander.
Catalonia were held 1-1 by Paraguay in their annual fixture, Jonathan's strike
being cancelled out by Dante López, and Euskadi lost 0-1 to Cameroon,
their first defeat in 15 games. The Valencia community beat Colombia 2-1, and
Galicia and Murcia played their first matches in the modern era, the former
beating Uruguay 1-0 and the latter drawing 1-1 with Lithuania. Atlético
Madrid and Real Madrid also played a testimonial match in memory of
Jesús Gil, Madrid winning on penalties after the game ended 1-1.
