Copa del Rey, third round
Another four first division
sides were dumped out of the competition by second division B sides on Thursday
evening. Mallorca suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of
Alcoyano, and Racing Santander were beaten 1-0 by Burgos.
Real Sociedad were unable to score even one goal in the penalty shoot
out and lost to Zamora, and Málaga were also beaten by
Baza on penalties. Zaragoza were very close to joining them as
well, Alicante missing the penalty kick which would have given them
victory and César saving another to take his side through.
A late header by Kezman gave
Atlético Madrid a 0-1 win at Las Palmas, and Athletic
Bilbao also won by the same scoreline at Real Unión. A
hat-trick by Celta's Perera knocked out Tenisca, the only third
division side left in the competition, and Cádiz had to wait
until extra time to beat Albacete. Getafe won their local derby
match at Rayo Vallecano 1-2, even though Michel's side staged a late
comeback, and L'Hospitalet recovered from two down to beat
Nàstic 4-3. Finally Lleida made it through with a goal in
the last minute of extra time at the new Logroñes, and second
division leaders Xerez beat Numancia 3-2. The fourth round draw
takes place tomorrow afternoon. (20.10.05)
The third round of the cup
kicked off this week, with the eleven first division sides not competing in
Europe joining the 17 survivors from earlier rounds. And there was already a
surprise in the first match, Second division Eibar beating
Alavés 1-0 thanks to a first minute strike from Arriaga. All
remaining ties take place tomorrow. (19.10.05) |
