Under 21 international
San Marino 1 - Spain 10
Spain's under 21 side
are out of the European Championships despite another record win against San
Marino. The youngsters started the last day out of the top two positions,
and needed Bosnia to beat Serbia to overtake them in the table. But Serbia won
5-1 to take the second play-off spot behind Belgium, and Spain will once again
be watching the tournament on their television sets. Having hit fourteen
against San Marino in their first match this one was a bit of a formality,
Iniesta putting his side on their way with a sixth minute penalty and Llorente
getting a second midway through the first half. Valli got a rare goal for the
hosts, but David Silva added two more either side of half time, and Llorente
completed his hat-trick with less than an hour on the clock. Half time
substitute Soldado helped himself to a hat-trick as well in the last 30
minutes, and Davide Simoncini put through his own net in between to complete
the scoreline. (11.10.05) |
