Second division, day 2

Sporting Gijón took over top spot in the table after a resounding 0-4 win over Nàstic. The Asturians were two up in five minutes through Pablo Alvarez and Michel , and Calandria and Dorado completed the scoreline after the break. Ciudad Murcia stay in the top three after a narrow 0-1 win over Málaga B, Iban Espadas getting the only goal of the match in the second half.

Five sides ended the weekend on maximum points including Valladolid, who beat Albacete 2-3 in the last match of the evening. The visitors overturned an early lead with two penalties in the first half, and Curbelo got the winner after the restart. Elsewhere, newly promoted Lorca are a surprise sixth in the table after a 1-3 win at Elche. All the goals came in the second half, Xavi Moro, Perona and De Carlos scoring before Rubén Suárez got a late consolation.

Real Madrid allowed their B team Real Madrid Castilla to use the Bernabeu stadium for their first home game since their return to the second division, and the 10,000 crowd weren't disappointed, the youngsters running out 3-0 winners against Hércules. Real Murcia clocked up their first points of the new season after beating Eibar 1-0 thanks to an Alaña own goal, and Almería bounced back from their opening day defeat and their elimination from the cup to beat Xerez 3-0. Almería's neighbours Poli Ejido also won at home, coming from behind to beat Lleida 2-1. (04.09.05)

Numancia and Levante top the table pending Sunday's games after taking the maximum six points from their first two games. Numancia followed up their 3-0 victory from the week before with a 0-1 win at Castellón, Jordi Navas heading the only goal from a corner in the second half. And Levante also got off to a best possible start after beating Racing Ferrol 1-2, despite ending the game with nine men after Coutois and Camacho were sent off. Riga and Courtois got the goals in the first half, with Juan Carlos equalising temporarily in between. In the third game on Saturday evening, Recreativo Huelva beat Tenerife 3-1, a hat-trick from Rosu helping them to their first win of the season. (03.09.05)
