Intertoto Cup, semi-final, second leg
Spain will have two sides in
the Intertoto cup finals after Deportivo and Valencia both won their respective
ties. Deportivo had the harder task as they were defending a slender
first leg lead against Newcastle, and they went behind on aggregate when
Milner put the English side ahead five minutes before the break. However
Andrade levelled the scores on the stroke of half time when he poked the ball
over Given's head after Duscher had headed on a long free kick, and just three
minutes after the restart Munitis intercepted a bad back pass by Elliott to
wrap things up. Valencia were virtually through already though after
their 4-0 win in the first leg against Roda, and Quique Flores allowed
himself the luxury of making several changes to his side. There were no
surprises as the Spaniards kept things under control, and the match ended 0-0.
The finals will be played over two legs, with Deportivo starting at home next
week against France's Olympique Marseille and Valencia travelling to Germany to
play Hamburg. (03.08.05) |
