Intertoto Cup, semi-final, first leg

Home victories for the two Spanish sides in the first legs of their respective Intertoto cup semi-finals, with Deportivo La Coruña beating Newcastle 2-1 and Valencia recording a comfortable 4-0 win over Roda. Rubén Castro put the Galicians ahead with an early strike against the English side, but Bowyer equalised with a spectacular volley after the restart before Andrade ran through from his own half to get the winner later in the second half. And Rufete was the hero in the Mestalla stadium, notching up a hat-trick in a fifteen minute period around half time.
