Deportivo are close to a
place in the UEFA cup after beating Olympique Marseille 2-0 in their Intertoto
Cup final. Joaquín Caparrós's side had most of the first half but
couldn't find a way through a packed defence. Only Rubén caused any
problems for Carrasso, and Mendoza was a menace on the counter-attack at the
other end.
The Galicians finally took
the lead though midway through the second half when Rubén collected
Luque's long cross and drilled a low shot across the keeper. Niang came close
to equalising soon afterwards, but with three minutes to go young substitute
Iván Carril ran through on to Sergio's pass and shot wide of the keeper.
It could be an important strike, and with no away goals the French side will
now have to score three in a fortnight's time. |
