Valencia made it through to
a final meeting with Hamburg after an almost eventless 0-0 draw with Dutch
first division club Roda. Quique Flores's side were virtually assured of a
place in the last round after their 4-0 win in the first leg in Spain, and the
manager allowed himself the luxury of making several changes to his side.
Kluivert, Di Vaio and Edu were left on the bench, and with Cañizares,
Vicente and Baraja injured and Aimar only recently rejoining the squad after
his belated holidays, Mora, Albiol and Mista were all given a run out.
There were no surprises
though as the Spaniards kept things under control, and after a brief flurry of
activity in which Koné put in a lot of work, the game settled down.
Fabio Aurelio did try his best to create some problems for the Dutch defence in
the first half, and David Villa missed the best chance of the match shortly
before the break. But there were even fewer chances after the restart, and only
the appearance of Di Vaio and Edu gave the fans anything to shout about.
