With a three goal lead from
the first leg, Deportivo were not expected to have any problems beating
Buducnost in Podgorica, Serbia. Joaquín Caparrós certainly
thought so at least, and the new coach decided to leave Valerón and
Sergio at home and give Iván Carril a first start on the left wing, with
Munitis playing a central role behind Xisco.
The front two combined for
Xisco to bring a good save out of Vujadinovic in the first half, but otherwise
Depor took it easy against an opponent who didn't create many problems in the
first forty five minutes. Sekulic pulled a goal back midway through the second
half though after Risto Lakic set him up, and although Toro Acuña and
Rubén Castro tested the keeper with long shots, Vujovic gave the local
fans hope with a second goal three minutes from the end.
One more would have taken
the game into extra time, but Munitis won a penalty in injury time which
Acuña converted to make sure of a third round tie with either Slaven
Koprivnica or Gloria Bistrita. Not the greatest of victories, but a job well
done at this early stage of the season. |
