A comfortable win for Real Madrid in Trondheim, two first half goals enough to give them victory over Rosenborg and a place in the last sixteen. With several players out through injury and suspension, Luxemburgo was forced to put out a makeshift side, with Diogo and Sergio Ramos in central midfield and Pavón coming in to the back four. But they dominated from the start, and after Beckham fired a long shot wide, Robinho came close after cutting in and curling a shot just wide of the post. Midway through the first half Guti found Robinho with a long pass, and although Johnsen got a hand to his cross, the ball hit Dorsin and deflected in to the net.

Casillas was called upon a few minutes later to keep out Storflor, the first of several saves he was to make on the night. But before half time Madrid were two up after Beckham found Robinho on the edge of the area. the Brazilian losing the ball but Guti following up to drive a shot under the legs of Kvarme and past Johnsen.

Luxemburgo was forced to make more changes at the break, Salgado being replaced by Mejía and Diogo switching to right back. But after that they sat back to defend the lead, with Casillas called upon to make top class saves from Frode Johnsen, Dorsin and Braaten. In the end three more points which ensures them of second spot, but they still have work to do if they are to overtake high flying Lyon in the table.
