Real Madrid came back from a goal down to score four times in the second half and beat Rosenborg 4-1. Missing the injured Ronaldo the Spaniards were unable to find the target in the first half, although they spent most of the time in the Norwegian penalty area. Johnsen did well to save on the line after Raúl deflected Zidane's shot with his heel, and Baptista got on the end of a long Roberto Carlos cross to hit the bar. Robinho fired a shot just wide after losing his marker with a "sombrero", and Diogo also tested the keeper later on.

But five minutes before the break Strand picked up a cross form Dursin to put the visitors ahead in their first attack, and there were whistles from the crowd as the dejected players left the field at half time. Luxemburgo was forced to bring on Guti for the injured Baptista, but things were to improve rapidly in the second half. Raúl just failed to find the target in the opening minute, and two minutes later Woodgate rose above the defence to head Beckham's cross in for the equaliser, the English defender running to celebrate the goal with the team doctor who had helped him through his long injury.

Madrid were back in the driving seat, and four minutes after the goal Raúl's quick footwork after a run by Robinho gave his side the lead. The team captain was celebrating his 100th appearance in the European competition, and this was his 51st goal. Helguera made it three when he headed a Beckham free kick down past Johnsen soon afterwards, and Beckham himself got the fourth with another trademark free kick. Luxemburgo provided a nice touch near the end when he replaced Woodgate with Mejía, allowing the crowd to show their appreciation for him as he left the field. It was a night of festivities all round, but there is still work to do before Madrid can claim a place in the last sixteen.
