Sevilla beat Panathinaikos
2-0 to overturn the one goal victory by the Greek side from the first leg,
although they left it late to do so. The visitors defended successfully for
most of the match, Galinovic saving from aranda early on and Renato and Jesuli
both failing to convert their chances before the break.
However Panathinaikos were
reduced to ten men eighteen minutes from the end when Ezequiel González
was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Caparrós, who had
already included three forwards in his starting line up, threw on Darío
Silva and Makukula to join them.
The move finally paid off,
Makukula levelling the tie with a headed goal from Adriano's cross, and with
the game heading to extra time, Darío Silva and Antoñito
combining for Adriano to strike the winner. The crowd went as wild as they had
won the cup final, and they will have to go through it all again when their
side meet Italy's Parma in the next round. |
