Baptista (penalty). After Sichone pushed over Baptista himself in the area.
Sevilla started off their
participation in the league stage though with a 2-0 win over Aachen, the
Andalusians having sat out the opening round of matches a couple of weeks ago.
Caparrós's side took the lead early on after Jesús Navas crossed
in to Baptista, Straub keeping out the Brazilians effort but unable to stop
Aranda scoring from the rebound.
Aranda went close with a lob
soon afterwards, but the German second division side also caused problems,
Michalke and Pinto shooting wide on rapid breakaways. Straub was in action
though either side of half time to keep out efforts from Baptista and
Jesús Navas, and did well to stop a Renato free kick a few minutes later
which took a deflection off the defensive wall.
By now though it was just a
question of time, and Baptista got a second goal from the penalty spot after
the Brazilian himself was brought down by Sichone in the area. The match was
over, and Sevilla move on to three points together with Lille, Aachen and also
Zenit, who they play next in St. Petersberg in three weeks time.
