Zaragoza were surprisingly
beaten 1-0 by Austria Vienna, a result which leaves both them and their
opponents three points behind group leaders Dnipro. The match was played at a
slow pace, and the first chance didn't come until five minutes before the break
when David Villa and Javi Moreno both had efforts saved by keeper Didulica in
quick succession. The Austrians almost took the lead though when Vachousek's
free kick hit the upright three minutes later.
The second half followed
along the lines of the first, Moreno's shot straight at the keeper the
Spaniards only effort on target. Víctor Muñoz made a double
change taking off Zapater and a disappointing Villa to bring on Generelo and
Oscar, but only five minutes later the home side got what was to be the only
goal of the match, Gilewicz picking up Vastic's pass to roll the ball past Luis
García from the right wing. The result was a first ever victory for the
locals against a Spanish side, and Zaragoza go home ruing an opportunity to
move into a dominating position in their group. |
