Two late goals from David
Villa were enough to give Zaragoza a 2-0 win against modest Dutch side Utrecht,
taking them to the top of their group after the first round of matches. The
visitors had clearly come looking for a draw, and Luis García was not
troubled in the local goal until just before half time, when he had to tip a
Zuidam header away for a corner following a free kick. Galletti had brought a
good save out of Terol earlier in the half, and Savio had rattled the woodwork
with a free kick soon afterwards as the Spaniards dominated.
The local fans started to be
concerned though as the clock ran on, but eventually it was Savio who found the
way through, his pass reaching Villa for him to make a bit of room and poke a
shot past the keeper. And five minutes later the young striker ran on to a
through ball from substitute Cani to shoot low past Ponk, who had replaced
Terol after the first goal. Víctor Muñoz can rest easy, his team
had got the start he wanted. |
