Spain cruised through to a
quarter final meeting with Argentina after beating Turkey 3-0 in the first
knock-out round. Iñaki Sáez's side went in front midway through
the first half when Juanfran ran on to a headed pass from Llorente to head in
from close range, and the Real Madrid winger got himself a second goal a few
minutes later after Llorente headed on a long clearance from Ribas, taking
advantage of a hesitant defence to round keeper Ozcan and score.
Llorente came close to
adding a third shortly before the interval, but half time substitute Keles hit
the foot of the post from a wide angle as Turkey fought to get back in the game
after the restart. Cesc brought a good save out of Ozcan though before team
captain Robusté headed a third goal from Gavilán's corner, and
Gavilán himself almost made it four when he crashed a shot against the
crossbar in the closing minutes. |
