Las Rozas. Spain beat Israel
3-0 in the opening game of the European qualifying tournament, a good start
before their more difficult matches against Portugal and France later this
week. Ginés Melendez's side did most of the attacking early on, and went
ahead five minutes before the break after Israeli keeper Offek was sent off for
giving away a penalty, David Silva converting the spot kick. Substitute Carmona
and Silva himself added two more in the closing minutes to round off the final
result.
In the other group match,
France confirmed that they will be Spain's strongest rival for a place in
Northern Ireland after they beat Portugal 3-2. |
