Spain beat Poland 4-1 in
their last group game to finish top of their section with maximum points.
Already sure of qualifying for a place in the last four, Armando Ufarte gave a
run out to the remaining players in his squad and rested some of his key
players. But even with a weakened side they were more than a match for the East
Europeans, and within fifteen minutes they were already two up with strikes
from Valero and Víctor.
The Poles came back though,
and Manu tipped a shot from Smolinski onto the bar. And on the stroke of half
time Piszczek pulled one back after picking up a pass from Szczepan. But their
joy was short-lived as Gavilán crashed home a third goal on the hour
mark, and Soldado rounded things off near the end to set up a semi-final tie
against the Ukraine in Fribourg next Wednesday. |
