A best possible start for
Spain in the under 19 European championship in Switzerland, their 3-0 win over
Germany in their opening match confirming them as one of the tournament
favourites. Manager Armando Ufarte opted for a starting line up similar to the
one which won through in the qualifying stage a couple of months ago, with
Mallorca's Víctor and Espanyol's Juan Tomás up front and Real
Madrid's Juanfran coming in on the right wing. Juanfran it was who created the
early chances for the youngsters, but keeper Adler made first class saves from
Valencia's Silva and from Víctor to keep the scores level at the break.
Six minutes in to the
restart though Spain took the lead, Víctor getting on the end of Silva's
long free kick to head past the stranded keeper. Ufarte decided to rest his
forwards, bringing on Valencia's Gavilán and then Real Madrid's Soldado,
and the two combined to score a goal apiece to wrap up the match. The
youngsters play their next game in Lausanne on Thursday against Turkey, who
beat Poland 4-3 in the other group B tie. |
