Under 16
Santarem International Tournament
26-29 January 2005. Spain's
under 16 side won the Santarem International tournament in Portugal
after taking maximum points from their three games. Three teams were invited to
join the hosts, including Spain, Denmark and Scotland, who
Spain beat 3-2 in their opening match. Valencia's Aaron put them ahead from the
penalty spot, and although Hepburn equalised, goals from Emilio and Aaron again
either side of half time gave the youngsters an unassailable lead. Goodwille
pulled another back for the Scots after the break. In their second match the
following day, Spain beat Denmark 2-0 with goals from Marcos early on and
Emilio near the end to set up a final clash with Portugal. And four goals in
the first hour saw Alfonso Fraile's side through to a comfortable 4-1 victory
to take the cup. Goals came from Emilio, Samu (2) and Aarón, who was
voted best player in the competition.
