Second division, day 40
Stop press: Celta's
promotion was in doubt today after the club were denounced for fielding an
ineligible B team player Toni Moral during the last two games against Terrassa
and Xerez. The disciplinary committee will be meeting soon to make a decision,
but they could well overturn both results, imposing a 3-0 defeat for each and
docking six points from the Galicians. (07.06.05).
Celta are the first
team to win promotion to the first division after beating Xerez 1-3 on
Sunday evening. Canobbio and Perera gave the Galicians an early lead, but
youngster David Narvaez pulled one back before Canobbio wrapped things up a
quarter of an hour from the end. The other two places are still up for grabs
though, and only four points separate four sides with two games to go.
Recreativo moved up to within a point of Cádiz after winning 2-3
at Lleida, Gastón Casas getting the winner from the penalty spot
after the locals had fought back from two down to equalise. And Eibar
are level with Recreativo after a 1-0 win over Real Murcia, Cifuentes
getting the only goal in the twentieth minute with an attempted cross which
bounced in to the net.
The relegation spots are
more wide open than ever after this weekend's results, and any four from nine
sides could go down. Terrassa climbed off the bottom the table with a
3-2 win over Racing Ferrol, Juan Carlos getting two from the penalty
spot before being sent off near the end for a second bookable offence. The
result only took them above Pontevedra though, as Córdoba came
from a goal down to beat Elche 1-2 with a late strike from
Sérvulo. And Salamanca also picked up three points in an
impressive 1-4 win at Tenerife, Gorka Brit scoring a second half
hat-trick which included two penalties.
Salamanca's fate is now in
their own hands as next week they act as hosts to Ciudad Murcia, who are
now level with them on points after drawing 0-0 against relegation rivals
Málaga B. The point should be enough to keep Bakero's side up,
although they too have tricky games against Pontevedra and Terrassa to come.
Almería moved level with Málaga B, three points above the
drop zone, after beating Sporting Gijón 1-0, Luna getting the
only goal midway through the first half. Almería's neighbours Poli
Ejido are now only a point above them after throwing away an early lead to
lose 2-1 at Valladolid, Aduriz scoring both goals for the locals
including an injury time penalty. (05.06.05)
Joint leaders
Alavés were not able to celebrate their promotion to the first
division after losing 1-0 to Nàstic on Saturday evening. The
Vitoria based side held on with ten men for over half the match after Coromina
was sent off, but a long strike by Iván Anía squeezed past keeper
Bonano in injury time to send the visitors home empty handed. Alavés are
still three points ahead of third placed Cádiz though after the
Andalusians were held to a 1-1 draw at struggling Pontevedra. Oli put
the visitors ahead in the second half, but Rubén Reyes equalised a few
minutes later. (04.06.05) |
