Late news: It was
decided today that the final will take place on 11th June at Atlético
Madrid's Vicente Calderón stadium. (13.05.05)
Atlético Madrid 0 - Osasuna 0
Osasuna join Betis in
next month's Spanish cup final after holding Atlético Madrid to a
scoreless draw in their second leg match. In what must surely be the lowest
scoring semi-finals in the history of the Copa del Rey, the Pamplona based side
took advantage of the one goal advantage from the first leg to defend their
lead and go through to the final for the first time in their history. Keeper
Elia had little to do though against an ineffective opponent, although he did
have to keep out efforts from Richard Nuñez and from Colsa either side
of half time. Now the finalists have been decided the venue will be chosen
soon, with Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia all possible locations. (12.05.05)
Athletic Bilbao 0 - Betis 0 (4-5 pp)
Betis are the first
side through to the Spanish cup final after beating Athletic Bilbao in
the penalty shoot out. Neither side was able to score in 210 minutes of
football, although the hosts came closer with Urzaiz and Ezquerro missing
headers late on Oliveira headed an Assunçao free kick against the bar in
extra time though, and the visitors ended with ten men when Juanito was sent
off for a second bookable offence in the last minute. The game eventually went
to penalties, with Doblas saving Del Horno's first kick. Oliveira fired his
shot over the bar, but Doblas beat out Ezquerro's effort to take his side
through to their first final since 1997. (11.05.05) |
