Second division, day 29
Cádiz beat
leaders Celta 0-2 on Sunday lunchtime to end their run of four games
without a win and consolidate their third position in the table. De Quintana
got the first on the hour mark and Manolo Pérez the second at the end
from the penalty spot after keeper Pinto was sent off, ending Celta's own run
of seven wins on the trot. An extraordinary result in the other game which
kicked off at mid-day, Xerez losing 3-5 to Ciudad Murcia after
both sides converted two penalties. The visitors raced into a three goal lead
but a Mena hat-trick levelled the scores before Joao Paulo scored twice late
on. Xerez drop to ninth, just a place above Sporting Gijón who
beat Poli Ejido later in the day.
Just when they thought they
were safe, Real Murcia find themselves back in the bottom four after
losing 0-1 at home to Málaga B. The two sides started the day
level on points. Terrassa climb out of the relegation zone after beating
bottom club Pontevedra 1-0, but Almería were unable to do
so after drawing 2-2 at home to Elche. Nino scored twice for the
visitors to take them back up to fourth in the table. Finally
Córdoba seemed to be heading for a vital win at
Nàstic in their battle to survive, but a last minute goal from
the Catalans made it 1-1 in the end. (20.03.05)
Second placed Eibar
failed to capitalise on their early start when they were held to a 0-0 draw by
Tenerife. Visiting keeper Alvaro Iglesias kept out the Basque forwards,
and their challenge ended when Cifuentes was sent off near the end.
Alavés closed back up to within a point of the top three after
beating Racing Ferrol 2-1. Rubén Navarro and Epitié got
the goals to give Piterman's side their second win in a row. Recreativo
are level on points with Alavés after they drew 0-0 with
Salamanca, but Valladolid drop further behind after they were
beaten 2-0 by Lleida, a defeat which could signal the end for coach
Sergio Kresic. (19.03.05) |
