first round second leg
All four Spanish teams made
it through safely to the second round of the competition, which is to played in
a group format this year.
Zaragoza were the
first to kick off, but their one goal lead from the first leg was cancelled out
by Sigma Olomouc, who scored a goal in each half to turn the tie around.
Víctor Muñoz's side got three in the last ten minutes or so
though through Soriano, Hudec (own goal) and Javi Moreno for a 2-3 final
scoreline which sees them qualify at last after falling at the first hurdle in
their last two European appearances.
Sevilla had less
difficulties against Nacional, running out 1-2 winners in the island of
Madeira to add to their first leg win. Jesuli started things off before half
time after Darío Silva set him up, and although the Portuguese side
equalised through Adriano in the second half, Renato scored the winner near the
end from Antoñito's cross.
A goal behind from the first
leg, Athletic Bilbao were forced to score against Trabzonspor in
the San Mamés stadium. It only took Ezquerro five minutes to put his
side in front though with a brilliant solo effort, and Yeste made it 2-0 with
another individualist goal after the restart to ensure his side's passage into
the next stage.
Villarreal had no
problems recording a much needed 3-0 home win against Hammarby. Guayre
opened the scoring in the ninth minute, and youngsters Héctor Font and
Santi Cazorla added two more after the break The Swedish side's goalkeeper
Covic was sent off for a foul on Guayre on the hour mark. (30.09.04)
